Everyone in the room gets the same long word. Make as many words of four or more letters from its letters as you can before the timer runs out: each letter can be used as often as it appears. Longer words score more, and a word only you found scores double, so the hunt is for the words nobody else will see. At the reveal the whole room sees every word, who found it, and the words nobody found.
Type your own word (this week’s spelling word, a topic, a pupil’s name) and every round plays it: a quick vocabulary and spelling warm-up where every student plays on their own device and nobody needs an account. For a party, play a new word each round, or THANKSGIVING and CHRISTMAS for the holidays.
Everyone plays on their own phone or laptop, so it works around one table, in a classroom, or on a Zoom, Teams or Google Meet call: share the room code in the chat. It suits word lovers of any age, from students practising spelling to a group of seniors who like a word puzzle.
Playing alone? Try the daily Words from a Word, the Thanksgiving and Christmas editions, or your own word. More group games: Scattergories and Team Trivia.
One person creates a room and shares the code. Everyone gets the same letters on their own phone or laptop and makes as many words of 4 or more letters as they can before the clock runs out. Then the room sees every word, who found it, and the words nobody found.
A 4-letter word scores 1 point, 5 letters 2, 6 letters 3, and so on; a word that uses every letter scores 10. A word that only one player found scores double, so a rare find beats a common one.
