Questions

How do you play Words from a Word?
Each day there is one 9-letter word. Make as many words of 4 or more letters as you can from its letters. Each letter can be used as often as it appears in the word.
How does scoring work?
A 4-letter word scores 1 point, 5 letters 2, 6 letters 3, and so on. A word that uses all nine letters scores 10. Reach the bronze, silver and gold marks on the points bar.
What is a bonus word?
A real but rarer word that is not in the day's main list. It still scores, but it does not count toward the total, so the total is always made of everyday words.
What do the percentages mean?
Each word you find shows how many of today's players found it too. The lower the number, the rarer your find.
When is there a new word?
Every day at midnight UTC, the same word for everyone. Your words are saved as you go, so you can come back later in the day.
Where are the answers?
Press "I’m done" to see every word in today’s word, the ones you found ticked. Yesterday’s word and all its words are on the page too, under "Yesterday".
Is it good for spelling and vocabulary in class?
Yes. Finding words within a word is a classic word building activity: it practises spelling patterns and vocabulary, and every word is checked the moment it is entered. Teachers can use any word of their own, or play it together as a room on students’ devices.

Words in a word, for a class or a group

Also called words in a word or words within a word, it is a word building game that works as a no-prep spelling and vocabulary activity. Pick any word or a student’s name with your own word, or play Words from a Word Party: the same letters on every phone, against the clock.
